Grab The Games: Highlands
It's time to visit Highlands! Highlands is one of the games I was really looking forward reviewing this month. But what is Highlands? It is a game worth picking up? Highlands is a unique turn-based strategic experience where players choices and decision-making will determine whether they return to exile or march victoriously to crush their enemies.
Exiled from their homeland and faced against overwhelming odds of defeat, players in Highlands are tasked to build an army and retake what is rightfully theirs from a group of mysterious overlords and their mechanical army. These noble leaders will manage key aspects of their army and population including food, weapons, recruits and other resources to get stronger and advance in the game. As they march on, they will unlock new territories and production areas where individual characters will be able to use their skills to strengthen their position.
Choose wisely on which sectors to conquer and relinquish to the enemy in order to push new frontlines and find your way back to power. The first thing that really impressed me while playing the game for the first time are definitely the graphics of the game. Full of colors and breathtaking sceneries are there to impress even the most demanding players. The environments are hand drawn an aspect that makes the game even more amazing. Furthermore, the music and the whole sounds on the game create an amazing atmosphere for the player. Moreover, the game offers a detailed turn-based environment with battles and resource collecting.
All of these aspects offer a really challenging experience in which every move you make counts. There are also 4 character classes in the game: combatants, mechanics, leaders and academics each one with different attributes and abilities. You can fortify your position, heal troops, gather resources, craft materials etc. However, there are some negative aspects I should mention. The game can be repetitive sometimes especially in later chapter. Another negative for me is that there is only one mode available. I would love to see some online action as well.
To sum up, despite the negative aspects the game is mesmerizing. It is easy to learn but really hard to mast and the different elements available in the game are beautifully orchestrated by an amazing story.
Verdict: 8.5/10
