Grab The Games: Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

Homeworld is back! After the huge success of the remaster collection (which we have of course review previously http://www.grabthegames.com/review-homeworld-remastered-collection.html ) there is a new chapter available now with Deserts of Kharak. From space to desserts now but with the same excitement and fun that is offered in Homeworld series Deserts of Kharak offers a great gameplay experience.

DOK is a ground-based RTS prequel to the classic Homeworld games. Assemble your fleet and lead them to victory on the shifting sands of Kharak in this compelling strategy game. Crafted by Blackbird Interactive, a studio founded by veterans of Homeworld and Company of Heroes, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak takes players to the deserts of Kharak where danger lurks over every dune. The very first thing that I really loved in this game is definitely the graphics. Even though that the game be played in almost all PCs, the graphics are really amazing. The maps are well created, a lot of different environments and a great attention to detail. I should also mention the breathtaking cut-scenes, with a lot of real life details and the voice acting is just AAA.

Furthermore, I love that even if you zoom in a lot, the details and the high resolution graphics remain intact. The story of the game is really good as well. An anomaly is discovered deep in the southern desert. An expedition is sent, but the story is not that simple. Discover the story of Rachel S'jet as she leads her people on a quest to find their destiny in an exciting campaign. It is not that simple and not that easy so except hours of gameplay only in the campaign. There is also multiplayer available and various game modes that you can play alone or with your friends. Moreover, I should not forget to mention the fact that in this title there is a great focus in tactical combat.

You can position your fleet in various locations and gain huge advantage while you fight your enemies. Another positive aspect is definitely the fact that there are a lot of strategic decisions to make in the make from managing your resources to upgrading your units. In various occasions I made wrong choices and I had to replay various missions in order to get the right outcome. As far as the negative aspects are concerned, there are only a few races (2) available in the game an aspect mentioned by a lot of users complaining that the game lacks depth. Another negative aspect of the game is the campaign has ONLY 13 missions an aspect that doesn't give time to the game to show its full potential.

To sum, the game is really good to play but it lacks depth and a satisfactory campaign. I would suggest picking it up if you love the Homeworld franchise and when the game gets a satisfactory price cut during sales.

Verdict: 8/10
