Grab The Games: Outlast 2
Finally we have our hands on Outlast 2 for Steam, a few weeks now, and I couldn't be happier not only that we have the opportunity to preview it but also that we are going to present why this title is unique! But what is this game? Is it worth the hype? Should you pick it up when available? Stick around and you will find out now. Let's start by mentioning a few things about the game itself. Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets.
Outlast 2 introduces you to Sullivan Knoth and his followers, who left our wicked world behind to give birth to Temple Gate, a town, deep in the wilderness and hidden from civilization. Knoth and his flock are preparing for the tribulations of the end of times and you're right in the thick of it. You are Blake Langermann, a cameraman working with your wife, Lynn. The two of you are investigative journalists willing to take risks and dig deep to uncover the stories no one else will dare touch. You're following a trail of clues that started with the seemingly impossible murder of a pregnant woman known only as Jane Doe. The investigation has lead you miles into the Arizona desert, to a darkness so deep that no one could shed light upon it, and a corruption so profound that going mad may be the only sane thing to do. To begin with, the very first aspect that really surprised me is the graphics and in general the art work of the title. They are really sharp, unique and create an amazing atmosphere for even the most demanding players.
The world is really well created full of details and an amazing soundtrack as well. There is a lot more exploration to do compared to the 1st one and of course a lot more enemies that try to kill you in more ways that you imagine. I loved how hordes of enemies harass you and try to kill you during your journey. Moreover, another important aspect of the title that I should definitely mention is the fact that there is a new and better use of the camera. You can now hear your enemies through walls and capture short videos that will enhance your overall experience through the game. The story is really intriguing, it will make even the most demanding players want to play more and see what's coming next and what jump scare awaits him around the corner.
The title also runs solid on most PCs and has full controller support. As far as the negative aspects are concerned, I have to mention the most frustrating aspect I found during my play through. It's like the game always pushing you into one certain direction and you can always run and avoid all your enemies. I can understand that it is different from the 1st one but I would love if you have a choice to defend yourself or at least trap your enemies.
To sum up, the game is one of the gems of the horror genre! There are only a few negatives for me but it is definitely worth picking it up. The player is offered a complete experience with a really amazing story and an even more satisfactory ending.
Verdict: 8/10
