Grab The Games: Soulblight
Finally we have our hand on Soulblight for Steam, a few weeks now, and I couldn't be happier not only that we have the opportunity to preview it but also that we are going to present why this title is unique! But what is this game? Is it worth the hype? Should you pick it up when available? Stick around and you will find out now. Let's start by mentioning a few things about the game itself. On the face of this wretched world there is a gaping wound. The Temple, once glorious, now forsaken, hides secrets of forgotten machinery
Magical matter is born there when space time ripples and loses its meaning... and at the heart of it all is an anomaly. A tree shrouded in a mystical liquid, luring those brave enough with its promises of greatness. Do you dare seek its power? Do you wish to drink from the Soulblight? It is a top down roguelike title more specifically, rougelite that takes the genre's mechanics and expands on them. The game is built around the literal meaning of RPG. Instead of XP grinding, it introduces a unique Taint System. While traveling through the shattered reality of the Temple, you will receive personality traits based on your choices. These will be the main source of your strength. To harness them, you will have to act accordingly. Becoming an alcoholic means that you will be rewarded for getting drunk, but from that point being sober might prove to be unbearable.
To begin with, the very first aspect that really surprised me is the graphics and in general the art work of the title. They are really sharp, unique and create an amazing atmosphere for even the most demanding players. The levels are really well created full of details, interactive features and randomly generated as well. There are tons of weapons armor and utility items to get during your adventures.
Another positive aspect worth mentioning is that the narrative is gameplay-driven and the difficulty is high as well in every level and there are surprises in every corner. Someone should not forget to mention that the Unique Taint System encourages role playing and you can randomly choose at the start of your adventures but these choices will affect your gameplay in many ways so be careful. Moreover, you can use a stealth approach if you are not courageous enough to fight your enemies.
To sum up, after playing only a short demo I understand why this game is featured in the Square Enix Collective Pitch. It is honestly AMAZING, worth checking out and I can't wait to see how it will shape in the feature. If you want to support a game with a great potential well this is the one!
