Sunless Sea is a game of exploration created and developed by Failbetter Games, survival and loneliness set in the award-winning Victorian Gothic universe of Fallen London. Take the helm of your customized steamship and set sail for the unknown! Light and darkness are your greatest allies, but a stout set of cannon and a gunnery officer with a grudge will come in useful too. And Sunless Sea is a game of stories; the dark pasts of your crew, the hidden coves of the soul-smugglers, the tentacle nemesis that you chased from Hunter's Keep to the shores of the Elder Continent.

This game is amazing, the first things you will notice is the graphics and the whole environment are so amazing and well created that gives the player an atmosphere of terror, darkness and mystery. Also, most of the things in the game are hand drawn! How cool is that? Moreover, this title includes, real-time combat against ships and Zee-beasts, spider-crewed dreadnoughts, sentient icebergs and many more monsters that will awake your deepest nightmares and fears. The real- time combat is not as easy as you think it demands a lot of ammo and maneuvers to finally kill the enemy and smuggle their items. Furthermore, the game is full with more than 200,000+ words of stories and secrets. You can set your own goals and backstories.

You can find your father's bones or determine London's destiny or defy the gods of the deep sea. It is up to you to choose what you will do, how and what goals you will have. The game also has a roquealike feature. Every time you start a new game everything and a mean EVERYTHING is random. These offer new stories, new endings and of course new legacies for the generations to come because you will die 100% one way or the other! Something else that I like and you will definitely love too is the music in the game. Sunless sea has an amazing soundtrack that will create an atmosphere of mystery that will accompany you in your adventures.

However, even that the game is really fun to play there are a lot of negative aspects. First and foremost, the game is heavily text based something that will tire a lot of people and maybe will keep them away from the game. Another negative at least for me is that the game is a little bit hard when you start it and you will make a lot of errors before even you start your adventure on sea.. and errors are unforgiven in this title. Furthermore trade is impossible in the game because you will not be able to make more than 5 echoes if you have anything left to trade.

To sum up, the game is totally fun, amazing and unique and I totally recommend in my opinion to everyone who loves roquealike games full of texts, terror and incredible adventures that will make you play the game hours and hours but I think you should consider the negative aspects as well to see if the game is your kind of poison.
